Specialized Team

Specialized Team
The Specialized big yella team shoe proved that Specialized is serious about putting out for its team this year. This stiffy makes no mess about its fat plastic shell. The feel, however, is slightly smoother than this tough shoe looks. The only problem was getting into them. The neoprene sock thingy is set in the front of the shoe forcing you to dig down and pull it out to get your dang foot in it. When you do, however, it's a nice, soft neoprene wrap that attaches with elastic straps on the side and is stitched to the tongue in the front. It's a breathable (but not windy), tough, spanky, yellow shoe.

Who The Shoe Fits: The power climber looking to tackle any obstacle in his path and gain a couple inches of lift for the intimidation factor in the start gate.

Setback: ~$140

Features: Fat back sole, molded tongue with strap inserts, synthetic upper, wrapped toe box that is roomy and might prevent tearing, but offers a false sense of security and protection. It's a yummy neoprene sock even though it can be a bitch to get into.

Factors: The plastic is unforgiving. And, like a bus, they're yellow. This isn't to say they're uncomfortable, but only if the shoe fits can the rider grow with it. The neoprene sock holds your foot where you want it, once you find that sweet spot.

Tongue 'n Groove: There is squish lost in the plastic. The yellow don't make 'em mellow.
