They Bay Area is surrounded by forests and mountains. From the deep redwoods in Marin County and northward; to the drier, Mediterranean expanse to the east; to the lush, coastal cliffsides that trickle into Pacifica and beyond, it is a perfect balance between outdoor access and city life. Mission Peak is one of the more popular peaks close in. Located just northeast of San Jose, it is part of a regional preserve that bears its namesake. The Mission Peak Regional Preserve not only encompasses Mission Peak but nearby Monument Peak and Mount Allison as well. Being so close to a major metropolitan hub makes Mission Peak a popular and crowded hiking, cycling, and sightseeing destination. There are multiple trails to the summit and it is a relatively quick round trip. The most traveled loop is about 5.5 miles and is extremely moderate, but if you are looking for views, Mission Peak is a classic.
