Stevenson, Washington

Stevenson, Washington is one of Hood River’s sister cities across the Columbia River. Like it’s Oregonian relative, Stevenson is a windsurfing and kiteboarding hub; wind junkies travel from all over the world to sail in the Columbia River Gorge. With a constant influx of international travelers, Stevenson has cultivated a strong culinary and beverage scene (it turns out windsurfers like to drink beer). Walking Man Brewery is the local haunt for house-brewed pints. If the wind is low, the southern Cascades, filled with classic backcountry objectives, are a short drive away. The Washington Backcountry Discovery Route, an adventure motorcycle ride through the state, also kicks off in town. Just west of town, Skamania Lodge Resort is a major tourist destination featuring upscale rooms, treehouse cabins, and an 18-hole golf course, if you are looking for a plush getaway. Stevenson’s wind scene has indeed shaped the town, but off the water, the town has just as much to offer.
