The Hudson River Valley is the defining feature in eastern New York and Breakneck Ridge is the spot to take in some of the best views in the valley. But take the name seriously – this hike requires precarious scrambling to get to the scenic reward. The trail is steep and often traverses giant boulders and rock faces throughout the 3.7-mile loop. But, it is extremely close to New York City (might even be the closest real hike) and there is even an MTA stop en route for hikers without access to a vehicle. If you are craving some nature in the concrete jungle, Breakneck Ridge makes for an easy day trip. Don’t forget a pair of shoes with some solid traction!
