- Legendary mountaineer Willi Prittie led the Alpine Ascents expedition as it climbed the mountain with a team that included famed guide Vern Tejas and Chicago climber Al Hanna. Hanna, at nearly 72, had already climbed six of the Seven Summits, and had reached 28,000 feet on Everest multiple times.
