Greetings to all of you out there from Everest Base Camp. This is Willi Prittie reporting for the 2002 South Col Expedition.

I actually, as of a few days ago, was able to join the expedition but it's taken me a while to get over both the flu and a really bad head cold. Things are good now though and we've completed our actual first full day here at Everest Base Camp.

People slept very well last night and we're really looking forward to our puja, or blessing ceremony, which will take place tomorrow. All the Sherpas and lamas coming up will participate in this and it's kind of always viewed as the true kick-off of an expedition when we launch from Base Camp and begin starting up the mountain.

So we're all looking forward to this, and really looking forward to coming to grips with the Khumbu Icefall, the ladders and the lower mountain itself.
