Grand Pooba Halfpipe
LIVE:  Dec. 17, 1998

We're live with the Grand Pooba of the Elks Lodge...the Grand Prix of snowboarding where there's no limp fez and riders aren't under nearly as much pressure ("pray tomorrow---gets me higher pressure on people---people on streets") as last year when the Grand Prixes became the qualifying events for the US Olympic team selection so hopefully they'll just be as much fun as they used to be and the pressure now is all about the 10 grand purse.

This year, it all starts here in Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, riding on the tail of the World Cup Super-G and halfpipe earlier this week and the Super-G, halfpipe, boardercross at Whistler a few days before that. So, it all starts with the giant slalom on Thursday, Dec. 17, then the halfpipe qualifiers and the night light Air & Style contest (quarter-p please) on the 18th and the super (I don't get it) finals on the 19th.

The Grand Prix then moves to Copper Mountain Jan. 7-10 and picks up February 24-28 in Sunday River, Maine. We'll be there for all of 'em so stick with the lick.
