Hey, this is Ed Viesturs reporting on The Mountain Zone. It's the afternoon of April 9th. Eight or 10 inches of snow fell last night. It finally stopped at about midnight. We got up to a clear morning and then decided to go a little bit further up the ridge for a little exercise, acclimatization and to carry our loads up a little further. We didn't go too far because there's a lot of new snow and we didn't want to push beyond the ridge crest itself which was quite safe but beyond that we wanted to let things consolidate.

We got back to camp around noon, spent the afternoon digging a huge snow wall around our tent to protect it from the wind and now we're just hanging out. We just finished having lunch and for lunch today we had what we call the "Ed McMuffin" which is salami and cheese and mustard sandwiched between two pieces of rye cracker from Finland and we had coffee and some beef jerky and that's basically also what we had for breakfast. Dinner will be a little bit different... we probably won't... [satellite transmission fails].
