XIX Winter Olympic Games
Wrap-Up

Bode Miller
Ski: Bode Miller

On the two-board scene, you gotta love it when an American can insert himself into a Euro-dominated sport and perhaps wake North America up to the brutally fast, edge-of-your-seat world of alpine ski racing.

Bode Miller, the black-and-white and absolutely no gray area skier, meaning he podiums or wipes out hard, ingratiated himself in these Games with his indomitable spirit.

"I was trying to win the gold myself. That's all you can ask for. But if it doesn't happen, it's because somebody else skied great..."
— Bode Miller, February 21

It was unbelievable enough that he took two silvers, in combined and giant slalom, but, unwilling to settle with a safe silver-winning ski in the slalom, he bit it hard in the second run almost right out of the gate.

But Bode doesn't stay down and he didn't that day either, far out of medal contention, Bode Miller got up and finished his race. Medals or not, Bode doesn't quit.

Plus, you gotta love a guy who talks about "shrinkage" on The Tonight Show when describing his childhood forays to the self-described "hippie" family outhouse in the winter.
