Hi, Mountain Zone, we all spent July 5th ferrying loads up to our 4600-meter amphitheater camp. It was warm, sunny and quite pleasant. Anne carried a big load too. Yang Li Qun, our Chinese member, is moving his camp, currently located at the base of the icefall, to the our present camp. He carried five loads so far—amazing! Lakpa carried a load from the base of the glacier to our present camp, so he put in a world's record long day.

There was a bit of a crisis when Jon thought he forgot a bag of the Pakistani powdered milk. Some people rely on this kind of thing for survival, apparently. In any case, today is gray, overcast and warmish, with occasional snow flurries, and we are moving across the glacier to the bottom of the route to establish an Advanced Base Camp (ABC).

Some Kirghiz shepherds, who are grazing 300 sheep a little way up the valley, came for a visit and they brought us—you guessed it: bagels! Yes, they eat bagels here, though they are hard as rocks and you could break a tooth.

Not much sun today, so no power, so we can't talk too long. Ciao for now, all the best, Dan
