Escape from Mt Fairweather
After 3 weeks of attempting to climb Mt. Fairweather from the edge of the Pacific Ocean, we had just eaten our last few Jelly Bellies and entered the thick brush when I took this photo of Silas Wild. With 80 lbs. in tow we pushed through the last two hours to the beach and our big bag of food hanging, we hoped, out of reach of the bears. We never got to the summit on this trip, but I still consider it one of my best because of the big country and outstanding companionship. The next morning, after a late night bonfire of driftwood, our pilot plucked us from the sand and returned us to cold beers and warm families.
