Dual Slalom #6
Carter and Miller Win

Saturday night saw the final stop of the Dual Slalom as a tight men's race ended with a championship for Eric Carter (USA, GT), after Brian Lopes (USA, Mongoose) was denied a double championship season in the semi-final round. In the women's competition, Cheri Elliott (USA, Intense/Maxxis) took the night's win and NCS title, but Katrina Miller (AUS, Jamis) won the points race to become the NORBA champ.

Lopes was looking for his second DS title, but because Carter beat him in the semi-finals, he never made it to the final round. That was contested by Carter and David Cullinan (USA, Schwinn-Toyota), where Cully out-rode the GT champ. Meanwhile, Lopes lost the consolation round to Mike King (USA, GT) as the sun set on an exciting '98 season.

The women's competition was heated as well, with Miller absent from racing. This left Elliott to work her way up the elimination ladder, beating Lisa Sher (USA, Rotec) in the finals. Tara Llanes (USA, Mt. Dew/Specialized) won her consolation round. Because Miller is Australian, she wins the NCS series title, but not the U.S. championship. That title is reserved for runner-up Cheri Elliott, who is the NORBA U.S. champion.
