The fast, hot downhill world cup season ended at last this weekend, though this time, cold and slow due to the huge rainstorm that slammed into the side of this Swiss Alpine town and dropped enough rain to transform a fast course into a slow, muddy chute of crashing.

With just one race remaining in the Tissot-UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Cross-Country series, Cadel Evans and Barbara Blatter repeated last week's wins with two more impressive performances, wowing a vocal local crowd.

Mont Sainte Anne kicked off its 10th year of hosting World Cup racing this weekend, when the season's only triple-event - Downhill, Dual, and Cross-Country - kicked off in Quebec, Canada with an action-packed Saturday of gravity runs.

From the rolling green hills of Maribor, Slovenia, (drum roll please) Anne-Caroline Chausson and Brian Lopes, win for the second-straight week and give '99s #1 trade team (Volvo-Cannondale) a bit more to gloat about.


DUAL#2/DH#2: Rocks & Rollers in Hardcor-tina
Cortina, Italy: May 27, 2000
Anne-Caroline Chausson (FRA, Volvo-Cannondale) added to her list of achievements by winning her first-ever dual race, followed Sunday by yet another downhill win while teammate Flyin' Brian Lopes took the dual and Nico Vouilloz the downhill.


DUAL#1, DH#1: World Cup Goes Downhill in France

Anne-Caroline Chausson and David Vazquez lit the fires of the 2000 season, shaving just hundredths of seconds off their runs to beat an international field at this opening round of downhill action in Les Gets.

With the World Championships just weeks away, this weekend's World Cup mountain bike race in Italy was a good preview for competitors and fans alike to begin their betting and Marga Fullana and Miguel Martinez just upped the ante.


XC#4: Wicked Fast in St. Wendel
St. Wendel, Germany: May 6-7, 2000
Twenty-five thousand fans lined the scenic St. Wendel, Germany, race course this weekend to watch the world's best cross-country racers. Christophe Dupouey added another win while Barbara Blatter's the new kid.


XC#3: Huffin' It in Houffalize
Houffalize, Belgium: April 30, 2000
Thirty thousand fans turned out in scenic Houffalize to root for the homeboy, and all that cheering paid off when Filip Meirhaeghe took to the front. And Subaru-Specialized teammate Marga Fullana makes it two for the team.


World Cup XC#2 Heads for Spring Break
Mazatlan, Mexico: April 2, 2000
Martino Fruet and Alison Sydor made the most of their time south of the border, beating a slightly weakened field on one of the all-time toughest courses. Twelve thousand fans came out to witness mountain biking's debut in Latin America.
