"Everybody was telling us that the place would be crawling with tourists but, if we were lucky, we'd only be eaten by bears and not by the tourists."

Banff and Jasper are adjacent national parks which lie on the border of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. This is Rocky Mountain territory and the land is wild. Over eighty percent of these parks is inaccessible, just too wild for humans.

For eons, this area has been the domain of such animals as bighorn sheep moose mountain goats deer and bighorn terrier . Only recently have humans shown up with their parking lots and recreational vehicles.

If you can get yourself out of the parking lots, you'll find that these parks are less about crowded gift shops and more about an earth unblemished by human hands.

So if you're planning a trip to the Canadian Rockies, be sure to check out these web pages first. We have collected phone numbers, addresses and maps. We've also got information about bears. We hope this helps you find a "zone of your own" in the mountains.
