Mountain Zone, it's the Alpine Ascents "One Mountain at a Time" team calling in with our daily report — Wally Berg here. I'm sitting at our Col camp...something over 17,000ft. A little windy as you may be able to tell over the Iridium phone here, but I'll try to get you a quick update.

The other guys, Sal, Al, and Mike are bit behind me carrying on into this camp. We'll set up here tonight and I hope move onto 19,000 tomorrow. It's been a great lot of fun being on the mountain with the rest of the Alpine Ascents crew. Willi Prittie and his team arrived at Base Camp. I talked to Willi on the radio this morning. Neil McCarthy and Charles are moving up to Camp I today with Bill McLain, Paul, Dana and Tom, Michael Davis, Ray, and Al. They're a great team — seem really strong. They'll be just behind us. It's good to feel all their support back there and also just the camaraderie, the friendship; I mentioned in various people we meet on the mountain.

Evan McDonald is here as well and Evan and I, as guides, crossed paths or I should say we yearly cross paths all over the world...several times a year. It was great catching up with her yesterday and in particular visiting with her about her project that's funded partly by the American Alpine Club. She worked with Elizabeth Hawley over in Kathmandu. Those of you that have heard me speak or talk over the years about my Everest in Nepal and my experiences know the admiration and love I have for Elizabeth Hawley. What an inspiration she's been to me over the years and how invaluable, to say the least, that's an understatement, her work has been to all of us in the mountaineering community. Just hearing a little bit from Heather about that project and looking forward to catching up with her again in Kathmandu is really exciting to me.

Great friends on a great mountain and we'll continue to keep you posted as our adventures continue here.
