Day

| Deterred by the crackling warmth of a morning fire, we got
off to a late start. Fortunately we had less than eight miles to travel. The day
was highlighted by a relaxing stretch along picturesque Elizabeth Lake. There was
something powerful and mysterious about the perfect stillness that surrounded us:
the crisp air... the majestic pines...the fluffy clouds passing overhead. We slowly
became a part of the wilderness. Several waterfalls and the fording of a stream later, we arrived at Glenn's Lake, where we spotted a mountain goat with our binoculars. Unfortunately, our camp here was overrun with boy scouts... The backcountry in the Northern section of the park does not offer isolation. Fortunately, however, it is not overcrowded due to the strict backcountry permit policy. |
