Hello, Namaste, this is Mrs. Wentworth. And Namaste to all interested friends and family. This is my first broadcast since beginning the trek to Mount Everest Base Camp. In addition to the inherent majestic beauty of the Himalaya — and especially the Khumbu region — I find Sherpa and Nepali people to be a wonder of their own. They are happy, giving people, with the utmost sense of humor. I have taken many pictures of children at play; pictures of children working, and children being children — having fun. They are as curious of me as I am of them. I recorded some singing today as I passed by them.

For those that are doing mapping skills, we camped at Phakding last night and tonight we are in a lodge called the Panorama at the Namche Bazaar. We will being staying here two nights to further acclimatize. The altitude is now at 11,800. For heart rate research, shows that altitude is effecting heart rate, in that the resting heart rate is a little bit higher and it's hard to stay down at my normal range of 62. The trek is difficult and by far the hardest thing I've ever done, including biathlons, but the rewards of seeing the culture and to be able to bring this to you, are worth it all.

I've also tried to capture the everyday life of people. The Sherpas are genetically superior people in their ability to work, carrying loads of 80 to 150 pounds, more than their body weight in some cases, up and down these high altitude mountain trails. They are small in stature but big in heart and work capacity. Our Sherpa guides have been a wonderful addition to this trek and without them, we wouldn't be here.

Pete Athans is a wonderful host, and by far, we're learning more and more every day and we're incredibly lucky to be here doing this. So, Namaste again and check us later on the web.
