Marrakech, Morocco Friday, Oct. 16, 1998 9 am (Morocco time)
It was a wild scene at the finish last tonight as Marrakech welcomed home the Moroccan competitors in the Eco-Challenge. The welcoming began 30km from the finish where the streets were lined with people and police. The finish area itself was crowded with locals and other teams, singing, dancing, and generally looking for any excuse to go crazy!!!!
The two Moroccan teams had, for the most part, travelled the entire course together, and for their first event did exceptionally well. The 3rd Team from Morocco was disqualified in the early stages. One Moroccan Team member told me last night that the race was harder than they ever dreamed possible...but they would be doing it again. Saturday at 12 noon is the cut off for the race and then all teams get to reexperience the finish through an official ceremony. And, of course, the famous Eco-Challenge wrap party...as in that's a wrap folks.
See ya then.
