The Team Summits Gunnbjornsfjeld!
Tuesday, June 22, 1999 — 4:21pm (PST)

Hello Mountain Zone, this is the Willi and Wally team coming to you from the Great White North again. Our winds moderated a little bit early this morning and, blowing about 6 or 7 or so, everything turned blue sky and looked pretty good. So we got finished with the breakfast duties and headed on up.

We actually had a fair amount of wind today. I would estimate gust strengths in the 20 to 40mph range, with 40mph continuous on the summit ridge, but we got—the entire party summited on Gunnbjornsfjeld about 4:15 this afternoon. It took us about five and a quarter hours up, and it took us about an hour to downclimb, and had an interesting two-hour ski back down through ground blizzard.

We sort of lost our wand trail on the way down and the GPS came in handy to find camp again. But everybody is pretty content and bedded down here. It's about 11, quarter after 11 or so, our local time, and everybody feels like a really good day of accomplishments here, and then we'll be discussing what future goals to do here in the next couple of days. And we'll keep you posted in terms of what's going on. Talk to you soon.
