On to Base Camp Rawalpindi - Monday, June 5, 2000
Hi, this is Daniel Mazur calling with the Mustagh Ata First Ascent expedition. I just wanted to let you know that we have reached Pakistan and we really had a tough trip across India. But we finally made it and it's good to be here. It's fairly warm here now, and dry, a lot of wind. We're getting ready for our trip, picking up last minute items. Waiting for a few more team members to come into the airport this morning. And then after that we'll be moving up the Karakoram Highway. It takes about four days to make the journey up to Base Camp from here. We'll stay at several places along the way, climbing in our bus, also doing some acclimatizing in hotels. So hopefully we'll be able to send you emails and images from the road as we travel each night and also make calls. So I think it's going to be good. The team's coming together well and everybody seems to be getting along, coping with the climate and getting to know one another also. Trying to handle the different foods and different flora and fauna that kind of invade your system over here. So, we'll be in touch and hope all is going well with you folks back there and once again I'd like to thank you all for everything. So anyway, all the best and take good care. This is Dan out. By for now.
