Erik is a four-time New York City Marathon runner. Although new to the sport of adventure racing, he has extensive hiking and backpacking, road and mountain cycling, and flatwater kayaking and canoeing experience. Erik has lead or participated in backpacking excursions in Colorado, Vermont, and the Blue Ridge Mountains. While a student at Dartmouth, Erik kayaked or canoed 3 to 4 times a week. Last year, he completed a sea-kayaking trip off the Northeast coast of Vancouver Island.

As a US Army Infantry paratrooper, Dave excelled at trekking, orienteering, climbing, and rappelling. He also completed the US Army JFK Special Warfare School Special Forces Assessment and Selection, learning day and night land navigation, team building, endurance trekking, and survival skills. He currently competes in numerous 5k and 10k events in the northeastern United States, and has completed the Philadelphia Marathon twice. Dave has 18 years of canoe and kayak experience, and enjoys caving.
