Eco-Challenge // Teams // Team Hombres de Maiz

Team Hombres de Maiz (GUATEMALA) // Number 19
"Hombres de Maiz" makes reference to a Mayan belief written in their holy book, the Popol-Vuh, that the gods created men from corn. This team is the first Central American team to participate in an Eco-Challenge. Borneo will be their second race. They won the Eco-Challenge Spirit Award at last year's race in Argentina. They hope to promote adventure races to other Central American athletes, and support Friends of Lake Atitlan, an organization dedicated to protecting Lake Atitlan. Micheline is the oldest female participating in this year's race.
