Pernilla Wiberg Tears a Ligament

Pernilla WibergSweden's darling and likely bet for Gold at the '98 Olympics, Pernilla Wiberg tore a ligament in her right knee this week.

Wiberg will be out six weeks, said Daniel Mornet of Rossignol Ski Co.

Wiberg, the reigning Overall and Slalom World Cup Champion and two time Olympic Gold Medal winner, was training in Austria when the accident happened. She has been touted as a medal contender in both the Downhill and Super-G events in the Nagano, Japan, Olympic Games, beginning Feb. 7.

World Cup season begins in France in just over a week, but is followed by over three weeks of rest before the Nov. 20 World Cup in Park City, Utah.
