Day 5 brings certainty to some, and uneasy uncertainty to others.

After roughly 400 kilometers and five long, intensely grueling days, the three top teams are separated by less than a mere hour. Although Team Salomon/Eco-Internet still holds the lead, they can feel the heat, and the breath of their competition on their backs.

These three teams, and a handful of others, have the restriction of the �dark zone� on their side. While the very front of the pack moves forward, having paddled their Sampan canoes during the day, the second tier of teams is forced to rest on the riverbanks and wait out the night, making a first place finish close to impossible.

For some, the hope of finishing this race at all has escaped them. The strict cutoff time at PC 14 disqualified twelve teams today, leaving haggard competitors with unfulfilled dreams of completing Eco-Challenge Sabah 2000. The pain � physical, mental and emotional � is all too real.
