Endurance and Determination

On every level, racers battle the unforgiving jungle terrain and the pressures of the race.



An astounding 20 teams missed the cutoff time at PC 19 this morning, and were instantly disqualified. Hopes and dreams of finishing this year’s Eco-Challenge were shattered, frustrations and anguish high.

At the front of the race, Team Salomon/Eco-Internet showed indelible signs of fatigue after swimming and bobbing down the cold and muddy Danum River. They climbed into their Sampan canoe for the 116-kilometer paddle, well-aware that a handful of strong teams were hunting them down.

This race is far from over. With over 300 kilometers still to travel, front-runners will fight to the finish for the coveted, first place podium stand. Others have farther still to go, and face another beast: the time clock.
