ON THE SIDE BAR
The Diamondback team raffled off a cruiser to raise money for the injured Beth Coats, and raised several hundred dollars. Park Tool's "Hal" won the bike, so we hear.

Sportsman of the weekend: David Cullinan (USA, Schwinn-Toyota), who (apparently unbeknownst to him) donated his prize money from the DS big-air contest toward the Beth Coats fund. Thanks to his team, and to the defacto donor, big-air Cully.

Dual Slalom #3
Carter and Miller Take Dual Slalom

The men start the dual
Saturday evening saw the dual slalom go off in front of large crowds, a big-air contest and cool sunset weather. Done up in typical American style on an extreme course, NORBA's traditional side-by-side contests keep racers in their own lanes, compared to the world cup Dual style. What they lack in head-to-head action, however, is more than made up for by the twisting Mammoth course - negative ditches, table-tops and a cool drag race-style starting tree lights. Turn up the music, bring out the crowds and you've got a race!

Eric Carter (USA, GT) overcame a 1.5 second deficit to beat Brian Lopes (USA, Mongoose), schooling the field and taking the men's event with little flash and a lot of style. Carter beat Lopes in the double-elimination final runs while Geoff Scofield (USA, Rotec) won his consolation round and took 3rd.

Katrina Miller
Katrina Miller (AUS, Jamis) won the women's contest as she continues to tear it up on these courses all over the world. Taking slower lines for way less air, the women cruised the course with some impressive speed. Tai-Lee Muxlow (AUS, GT/Hutchinson) threw huge air off the table-top, but lost the final runs to Miller. Tara Llanes (USA, Mt. Dew/Specialized) won her consolation bracket for third.
