The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge Opens
This Norwegian Sanctuary Offers the Ultimate in Pampering
Thursday, February 07, 2002

DEER VALLEY, PARK CITY, UT — Continuing with its legendary reputation for service, pampering and relaxation, The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge opened this month, concluding a $40 million expansion effort.

The Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge is distinguished by its European approach to treatments, skin and body care products and its extensive, customized use of essential oils.

"For each guest, we start with a foundation of traditional European spa treatments and customize a program based on their needs and planned activities," said spa director, Kathleen Hahn. "We can use spa treatments to help our guests adjust to our high altitude, help invigorate them prior to participating in alpine sports, or soothe muscles after an active day in the mountains."

This intimate and distinctive Norwegian sanctuary was created to enhance wellness and better prepare guests for their alpine activities-summer or winter. Designed in a style of rustic elegance, the spa décor carries on the Norwegian touches seen throughout the Lodge and its new conference facility. Spanning two floors, The Spa features natural materials and colors including stone tile floors, carved metal sconces in the hallways, hardwood floors with rich area rugs and a guest area outfitted with luxurious day beds and soft enveloping chairs.

"We've taken great care to preserve the Norwegian charm and service for which the Lodge is renowned," said Russ Olsen, general manager of Stein Eriksen Lodge. "Our attentive spa staff is ready to see that our guests receive the finest in pampering with each treatment tailored to the guest's individual needs and desires." The 4,340 square-foot spa includes seven treatment rooms, an outdoor pool, fitness room, steam, sauna, and spa rooms with whirlpool tubs.

The treatment menu, created by Sylvia Planning and Design, draws from European history with ancient therapies, natural remedies and organic treatments. Top European product lines will be featured at The Spa including the Repêchage line, which is known for its hydrating French seaweed-based products and four-layer facials, and the Kerstin Florian line, a Norwegian botanical line that will be used extensively for body treatments and for several of the featured facial treatments.

Guests at The Spa are pampered from the moment they arrive. Upon entering The Spa, guests will be greeted by a spa concierge who will coordinate their treatment plan. In the guest waiting area, guests begin to relax by a fire as they soak their feet in a replica of an 18th century Norwegian porcelain bath bowl and sip cool water mixed with their choice of herbal elixirs. Guests can select from a myriad of single treatments or spa packages-from wellness treatments and baths to facials and nail care.

Following is a sample of the various treatments and services available.

* Wellness Treatments

* A Mineral Kur is a 90-minute treatment to detoxify and revitalize. The Mineral Kur begins with an organic Moor Mud wrap, with mud drawn from Moor Lake in Switzerland, followed by a bath laden with thermal mineral crystals from the famous Sarvar Spring. The treatment concludes with a full-body massage to ease sore muscles after a day in the great outdoors.

* Personalized Body Work
The Hydrotherapy Massage is a 60-minute treatment that is a powerful detoxifier. During this treatment, guests are immersed in the warm hydrotherapy tub while 47 underwater jets pulsate, giving an underwater pressure massage. The 90-minute Soothing Stone Treatment uses a unique combination of smooth, heated basalt river rocks, cool marble stones and Swedish massage techniques to relax the body and melt away tension.

* Baths
After an active day in the surrounding mountain peaks, guests can savor the effects of an old German remedy called Krauter Bad, which means herbal bath. The Spa offers a selection of aromatic oils made from rich botanicals such as Melissa to calm the nerves and strengthen vitality, Hiublumum which eases stiff joints and aching muscles and Kamille to moisturize dry and sensitive skin.

* Facials
The Repêchage Four Layer Anti-Aging Facial was named the "best facial of the century" by Cosmopolitan UK magazine. Complete with two massages, an aqua seaweed mask and a mineral rich thermal mask, this facial treatment results in younger looking skin and renewed moisture.

* Spa Packages
For the ultimate indulgence, The Fjords all-day treatment (6 hours, 30 minutes) includes an herbal steam, Eucalyptus Scrub, Soothing Stone Massage, Repêchage Four Layer Facial and a Sea Spa Manicure and Pedicure complete with a light lunch from the Lodge's award-winning restaurants.

The Spa also offers a full selection of products available for retail sale. "For our guests who wish to prolong the benefits of the spa, we have the products used in the treatments available for purchase," said Hahn. "Our therapists can even put a custom basket together to help them create a Norwegian sanctuary at home."
