Pearl Izumi Launches New Shoes for Fall 02

Saturday, August 3, 2002

Only six months after the successful launch of their cycling shoe category, Pearl Izumi has already added new styles and designs to the line. For Fall 2002, expanded design offerings in the Vaper Road and Mountain models as well as a new road shoe, the Vagabond Road, further round out the category to meet consumer demand.

The flagship model of the category, the Vaper, is now available in a "flames" color way. The Vaper Road has a red seamless air mesh upper sublimated with yellow flames. The Vaper Mountain is now available with a black seamless mesh upper sublimated with orange and yellow flames. The Vaper models utilize Pearl Izumi's carbon fiber I Beam technology for stiffness and lightweight performance. Three Velcro straps and staggered D rings allow for an unencumbered, comfortable fit. The molded plastic heel cup grips the heel and reduces any potential slippage. Both flame models retail for $189.99.

The Vagabond road is a new model based on the success of the Vagabond Mountain. This recreational road cycling shoe is loaded with features for any cycling endeavor. The shoe features Pearl's nylon I Beam sole for stiffness and the patent pending Tri Composite outsole construction for durability. The upper is natural leather and has three Velcro straps with staggered D rings for a most comfortable fit. The suggested retail for the Vagabond road is $74.99 and it is available in black.

Pearl Izumi's cycling shoe line is currently available at retailers globally. The two new Vaper designs and Vagabond Road model hit stores in July of 2002.
