Since 1981, the International Snow Leopard Trust, a small but dedicated organization of scientists and concerned individuals, has been working to conserve snow leopards and their fragile habitats. Based in Seattle, the ISLT is apolitical and takes a balanced approach to conservation that crosses the borders of 12 countries and takes into consideration the needs of the people and the environment in Central Asia.

The International Snow Leopard Trust celebrates its 15th Anniversary with Peter Matthiessen as a guest speaker. A founder of the Paris Review, he is the author of numerous well-received works of fiction and non-fiction including The Snow Leopard, for which Matthiessen won the National Book Award for non-fiction in 1978.
