10.) Why do you want to climb Everest?
One usually knows why by the time one gets around to it. One probably
knows it on such an integral level that one no longer asks one's self the
question. But... one must always have some good reasons ready for folks
who have no such similar urges.
TOP 10 GOOD REASONS TO CLIMB EVEREST
- What else are you going to do with your life? It's only life, after
all.
- Because it's still there.
- Can't beat the food.
- It is hard as heck and the outcome is uncertain.
- Everest is a beautiful and aesthetic peak.
- Everest is higher than any other mountain.

- OK, so we occasionally run out of good reasons to climb Everest.
TOP TEN BAD REASONS TO CLIMB EVEREST
- Fame and fortune will certainly follow.
- It is the hardest climb in the world... (a slippery title open to dull
and self-serving argument)
- Breaks the ice at parties when you can say you've been there.
- Doing it for the environment (traveling in a fragile environment is
rarely good for the environment)
- Doing it to inspire people. (Let other people decide for themselves
what inspires them)
- Everybody else is doing it.
- It's a living... we've all got to eat.
- "If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere" (that's NYC... not
Everest)
- "I want to be the first ________" (fill in the blank)
- "Nobody will ever kick sand in my face again"
