Team Fairydown Suffering
At about 1pm this afternoon, John Howard and Team Fairydown Fleet CookieTime, still hanging tough in 4th place, limped along the road between PC 24 and 25, visibly hurting from the punishing course that Mark Burnett and his crew had laid out for them. The sun bore down mercilessly, and there stood Howard and Keith Murray, two of the toughest men on the planet, switching out shoes on the roadside. Howard stuffed his grotesquely swollen feet into Murray's unlaced 13 1/2 shoes and kept stepping gingerly along. To complicate matters, the front three teams, including Salomon/Eco-Internet, Spie, and AussieSpirit.com, have set a debilitating pace that the rest of the field either has to deal with or ignore.
