Hinkley Power

SAN DIEGO -- The men were spinning brushwork above some 11,000 fascinated fans who made it known that they wanted Mr. Hinkley's double fronting revolutionary technique to wear the gold.

The judges saw form and expression differently and deemed Jim Rippey, Jason Borgstede, Kevin Jones and Ben Hinkley in a four way tie for first. So they made the men take their palettes above the crowd again for yet another final portrait. Dr. Jones spun 900 degrees starting and finishing his sketch switch (with his back to the canvas). This spinning pointalistic approach won the hearts of the judges and Mr. Hinkley's deluXe double front took silver.

Jim Rippey's signature inverted expression completed the three masters capturing all three medals for the small artist community of Truckee, California.

Janet Matthews knows how to compose inversions. Her ability to sick 'em to any canvas keeps her on top of the podium wherever she goes. She did it again today with her now familiar Iron Cross watercolor.

Janet attempted to stall her last one and got a face full of paint, but that didn't keep her from winning the crowd's heart. Tina Basich took silver with a her rendering of a large 720 and Tina Dixon placed third with her backside 360 composition.

Everyone seemed content with the colors and imposing canvas that ESPN provided. After yesterday's postponement, many artists looked concerned. Today however, the fans proved the day and had performers sliding across the grass and into them. The white canvas is all that remains and these shores won't see the likes of artists like these until next year.
