Hervis Snowscream of Soelden IFSA Freeskiing World Tour
February 17-20, 2000
Last year's Freeskiing World Champion Guerlain Chicherit (FRA) won the Hervis Snowscream of Soelden, Austria. Stian Hagen (NOR) and Hugo Harrisson (CAN), who is now ranked number one on the World Tour, tied for 2nd. The top-3 women on the Rosskirpl venue in Soelden were Linda Peterson (USA) 1st, Anne Cattelin (FRA), 2nd, and Sarah Newman, 3rd (NZL).
The competition started on Sunday morning, two days later than originally scheduled, due to heavy snowfalls. Even the venue had to be changed from Gaislachkogel to Rosskirpl because riders were only able to complete one run before conditions worsened. Final results were based on a single score. The competitors would have preferred to ski the planned three runs one qualification and two finals but were glad to get a result on their first stop of the IFSA World Tour 2000 in Europe. The second stop will be Courchevel, March 9-12.
The course at Rosskirpl was short but challenging, with many possibilities for special lines and the slope changed every day due to the wind and snow. These conditions made it much harder for less experienced competitors though which is reflected in the results.
