Heavenly's Adventure Park
Opens For The Season
Wednesday, January 2, 2002

'Tis the season for magical moments and holiday memories, and Heavenly's new Adventure Park is designed to deliver hours of wintertime fun for the entire family. Located at the top of the scenic Gondola at Heavenly, the new Mountain Adventure Park provides outdoor fun for all ages, and it's all within walking distance of the South Lake Tahoe/Stateline area.

"People come to Lake Tahoe to experience and enjoy the mountains, along with all the various activities this region has to offer," explains John Wagnon, Heavenly's Vice President of Marketing. "Our new Adventure Park brings the excitement of a true family mountain adventure right to their doorstep."

At the heart of Heavenly's new Mountain Adventure Park is the lift-served tubing run. Groomed nightly, the 400-foot track is served by a specially designed Mighty Mite lift that provides up-hill transport for tubing guests. And, for Heavenly's littlest guests, the resort offers a smaller, gentler sledding hill, adjacent to the bigger tubing hill. Tubes and saucers are available inside the rental shop at the top of the Gondola, however, park guests are asked to come dressed ready to play in the snow.

In addition to the tubing and sledding activities, the new Mountain Adventure Park includes 2.5 kilometers of gently rolling cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, perfect for beginner and intermediate cross-country skiers and snowshoers of all ages. The trails are groomed nightly and offer both skating lanes and track for diagonal stride, as well as designated snowshoe-only trails.

The resort has an inventory of Fischer cross-country skis, boots and poles for both adults and children available to rent. Heavenly is one of only two resorts in the country to offer the, the proven Fischer classic for recreational skiers. The BC Vista Crown skis feature AirChannel construction combined with PowerEdge technology and a sidecut to maximize control and stability.

Snowshoe rentals will also be at Heavenly's Mountain Adventure Center beginning in early-January. Snowshoe enthusiasts of all ages will enjoy creating magical memories as they meander down the trail through a forest of White Bark, Lodgepole and Jeffrey pine while enjoying the quiet serenity and awe-inspiring views of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range.

The park is open daily for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snow tubing from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. (weather permitting). Tubing hill access is $10 for two hours or $20 for the entire day and the use of a tube is included in the price. There are saucers, designed for use by small children only, available for complimentary use on the sledding hill and are. Cross-country equipment rental and snowshoe rentals are $10 for two hours or $20 all day. There will be a limited amount of sorel-type footwear available for those renting snowshoes. Those who already own their own cross-country skiing or snowshoe equipment may access the park free of rental charges provided they have purchased a Gondola sightseeing ticket.

Access to the new Adventure Park is via the Gonodola, South Lake Tahoe's newest must-see and do attraction. Located a block from the casinos, the Gondola provides an adventure in itself carrying park guests from the downtown area 2.4 miles up the mountainside in just under 12 minutes where they will enjoy unparalleled scenic views of Lake Tahoe, Desolation Wilderness and the Carson Valley. Gondola sightseeing tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children 6-12. Children five and under are free.
