(photo: Todd Burleson) | Three Slovakian climbers are missing on Mount Pumori (7161m) near Mount Everest in the Himalayan Range. The three reportedly fell 200 meters down the northern side of the mountain and have disappeared.
Canadian climber George Tumpach, who is in Nepal, said yesterday that members of the French expedition saw Robert Konde, 33, Peter Lenco, 24, and Dusan Myslivec, 35, fall. A fourth member of the Slovakian expedition was reportedly airlifted by a Bell helicopter off the mountain on Monday. While Tumpach had heard the men had been killed, they are officially listed as missing by Nepalese authorities.
Mt. Pumori is located on the Nepali/Tibetan border. Tumpach is providing daily updates via satellite phone from Nepal. [Click here to follow the cybercast of Tumpach's expedition.]
