Mountain Mail Banner Season in Patagonia

The weather gods have smiled on the climbers and hikers in Patagonia this season as the typical storms and wind that normally pummel the area have mysteriously disappeared, leaving the majestic rock faces of the towers of Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the companion peaks of this famous landscape free to be explored....Dean Potter soloed Cerro Torre and Fitz Roy twice and Steve Schneider completed the first traverse of the Towers of Paine, solo or otherwise. And endurance mountain biker John Stamstad reports from the brutal 100-mile time constrained Iditasport 100 for which he donned his skis and, at times, faced a -50 windchill....Plus, beautiful photos by Stephen Matera, and reports from the World Cup ski finals....Coming in April, Everest 2002!
