Mountain Mail Everest 2002: The Final Words
Our top feature this week on MountainZone.com is the wrap-up of the 2002 American South Col Expedition which put an Alpine Ascents record number of 17 climbers on the top of the world on May 24. Plus, the laptop is back and we have a beautiful new gallery of photos from those final days. And for those of you touched by guide Luis Benitez's promise to a grieving widow to visit the final resting place of her husband, killed on the mountain last year, we have a letter she has sent after just recently discovering Luis had been successful. In what is beyond a tragedy, three brothers were killed on Alaska's Foraker this week. Foraker is just 15 miles form Denali, from which we continue to cybercast a season of climbing...All on MountainZone.com.

EVEREST: Final Words
"I was a little concerned when we approached the South Summit. The wind picked up a bit, enough for a substantial cloud plume off the summit."

HIKE: Black Peak
Slide after slide showed the same tantalizing collage: lush greenery surrounding an unspoiled, turquoise alpine lake...

EVEREST: From Ingrid
"I could hardly sleep because I was thinking again and again - as I have many times over the past year - how Peter must have felt sitting there for 18 hours."

CLIMB: Denali Expeditions
"...we're perched on a rocky outcrop looking down thousands of feet below to the Valley of Death ..."

GEAR: Black Dot Jacket
Like other taped seam three-layer fabrics, HV3 keeps water and wind out, but allows your vapor to escape .
