What To Wear and What To Do

Take the time to think about the weather when packing for a trip to Waterton/Glacier. On a typical day in July and August (the most popular months in the park), temperatures are in the high 70s (mid-20s Celsius) in the valleys and the mid-50s (about 10 degrees Celsius) in the high country passes. At night, temperatures are in the low 40s (5 degrees Celsius). Be aware. The weather in the mountains is never "normal." Heat waves may settle in for weeks at a time during the summer, and temperatures can soar to the upper 90s (40 degrees Celsius). Snow is equally likely. In August 1992, the temperature was 97 degrees (36 degrees Celsuis) at Apgar, Montana, on the 21st of the month and a foot of snow covered the ground on the 23rd. Think ahead. Be prepared. Stay warm and dry and you'll stay happy. |
