Day 6
Lake Frances to Goat Haunt Ranger Station; Ferry to Waterton Provincial Park in Alberta
(5.5 miles)

We were awakened on our last morning by bright sun reflecting off of Mt.Thunderbird. Lying in my sleeping bag staring at Lake Frances and the waterfall emptying into it from the sky above, I couldn't help being saddened by the reality that this morning we were headed out.

As the sun heated up the early morning, we made our way through the woods toward the 10:25 a.m. ferry from Goat Haunt in the United States to Waterton in Alberta. It was a novel way to end the trip--crossing the border into Canada. The U.S./Canadian border is marked by a God-awful clearcut swath through the forest.

From the quiet town of Waterton we got a lift back to Many Glacier in Montana where our week began.

Six days and sixty miles later, we were out of the wilderness. Tired. Hungry. Without even a glimpse of the great Grizzly. An amazing week in the pristine backcountry of Glacier National Park had ended.

Rise and shine! Sprawled out in our bags on the shore of Lake Frances.

Jim and Scott; What a spot under the waterfall cascading into Lake Frances.
