OK, so I'm short. But when it comes to mountain biking my light weight makes me ferocious on the uphill. Being "height challenged," I traditionally found unloading and offloading my bike a bit trying. Not anymore.
To ease getting your bike off your Xterra, Genuine Nissan Accessory provides a line of hitch-mount bike racks. It's a rack system that attaches to the back of your car, making it super easy to load and unload my bike. The rack attaches to your Xterra's 2-inch receiver towing hitch and can carry up to three bikes.
The rack has adjustable and padded arms that snugly and lovingly hold your bike tightly in place. A capped nut tightens down the clamp against your bike's top tube. The built-in stops on the rack prevent your babies from banging and scratching each other and are easily adjustable to fit any size bike. Even oddities like horizontal seat to steering fork cross tube-Ok so not so odd any more with the prevalence of downhill only designs. The rack is made of powder-coated steel for high durability and corrosion resistance.
We installed the Genuine Nissan Accessory hitch mount rack on our test vehicle, a 2002 Xterra SE. Unlike some other vehicles, the rack's 2" receiver hitch fits solidly into your hitch mount and includes a locking feature for added security. We recommend having a professional Nissan genuine parts dealer do the install, to help ensure your precious toys makes it to the trailhead just fine. In addition to time/hassle savings of climbing all over your roof to get your gear, the hitch mount rack does not require removing your bike's front tire, saving further time for the trail.
Our most favored advantage is bike cleaning. After an early season mud ride (Oh yeah in the NW it is always Mud Season!), we simply hosed down and cleaned our bikes, while they remained mounted snugly on the rack. Rear mounts also prevent the mucking up of your roof and also keep all the summer bugs from ending life mashed to your frames while mounted on your roof as you speed to the trail. Not to mention- ahh being not so tall. See ya out there!
