Expedition Hennessy Hammock
A bugproof, windproof, lightweight hammock for the road

Hennessy Hammock
Every year, my buddies and I take an overnight mountain biking trip to escape from city life. This past fall, we elected to ride the length of the McKenzie River Trail, some 30 miles long, nestled in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. This scenic trail runs parallel to the gurgling McKenzie River and is considered to be one of the state's most scenic rides.

Traditionally, we packed lightweight sleeping bags and thermarests along with a large fly-sheet in case of rain for sleeping. Yet, this arrangement provided for marginal sleep at best. This year, each of us decided to try the Expedition Hennessy Hammock, a lightweight, windproof and bugproof hammock designed for sleeping. It turned out to be the best piece of equipment we packed.

We found the 2.5 lb Hennessy Hammock easy to set-up (only three minutes), comfortable to sleep in and best of all, easy to stash and carry in our packs. The design of this hammock basically cocooned us for restful night of sleep after a hard day of biking.

The hammock features a triangular mesh pocket suspended from the ridge line to hold lumpy things such as a headlamp and a small book. It comes with a 2" wide nylon webbing attached to the end of the suspending ropes to protect the bark of the trees and provide greater span for the ropes. And not to worry, the suspension system is made with 1800 lb test polyester rope. The weight limit for this hammock, though, is 250 lbs.

The 9'X4" hammock provided more than enough room for sleeping. The canopy measures 10'X6'. The fabric is made from 210 D oxford nylon while the canopy is made with 1.9 ounce polyurethane coated nylon. Two 42" long, 2" wide nylon webbing straps are included as well as a 1 ounce polyester no-see-um netting. The whole package fits into a stuff sack roughly 7"X11." Great for when you are traveling light.

FEATURES:

  • Easy Entry Through The Bottom: Walk in to the middle of the hammock, turn around and sit down. Lay back and lift your feet inside.
  • Snap Tight Zipperless Closure: Your weight tensions the entrance which automatically snaps closed behind you.
  • Perfect Set Comfort Curve: Integral ridgeline maintains the same comfortable shape to keep your back straight and level when resting on the diagonal.
  • Bug-proof: 18 square feet of No-See-Um or Tropical Netting provides excellent protection and ventilation.
  • Windproof: The no-see-um mesh will deflect wind to provide a calm space inside. For the tropics, where maximum ventilation is necessary, we recommend using a Hennessy Hammock with tropical mesh.
  • Waterproof: The canopy may be tilted to any angle, rolled up above or removed.
