It had been a long day. I brought my backcountry skis instead of snowshoes for some winter camping because my buddy assured me that they would be a fine choice for the trail we were doing. But for the first quarter mile or so, we had to switchback up very steep, densely forested slope where the skis just weren’t cutting it. I ended up post-holing most of the way and my feet were cold and miserable by the time we got to where we would be camping. But as I set up my tent and unpacked my bag, there, unassuming, stuffed into a little crevice next to my sleeping bag were a pair of down booties. I could not wait to get my feet into these.
I pulled these on as soon as I retired to my tent and immediately my sad, cold feet found their inner voice and sang. These are foot toasters and they are amazing.
With a flexible nylon covered foam sole and 650 fill down coming up past your ankle, these boots are highly compressible but expand to create a very roomy booty. These booties are true to size as far as length and width are concerned, and are roomy enough to accommodate even very high volume feet wearing multiple socks. The sole of the booty is hard foam covered with grippy nylon. It is soft enough to be worn inside a sleeping bag without damaging the lining material but is supportive enough to be worn on packed snow if necessary. The nylon shell is durable and water resistant and there is an adjustable elastic around the ankle to make the cuff act as a baffle to keep in heat.
Cold feet are no fun. These will keep your feet warm. These booties are a good item both for cold weather camping and for wearing around your home.
