Ibex Woolies Crew - Outdoor Gear Review

Introduction:

Although wool has been maligned for being itchy, many wool products are very soft and comfortable. Apart from offering excellent insulation, wool breathes well and wicks moisture away from the body. This wicking away of moisture keeps odor to a minimum, making wool an excellent fabric for athletic activity.

This preamble of wool aside, on to the Ibex Woolies Crew... The Woolies Crew is a lightweight long sleeve merino wool base layer from Ibex. The cut length of the shirt is a little longer than normal, as a base layer should be, so that it can remain tucked in. Comfort features include tag-free design and outside seams. The sleeve cuffs are long, making it easy to slip on another layer of clothes. The fit of the Woolies Crew is very comfortable; not too tight not too loose.

Oh, and the Woolies is even machine washable!

Pros:
  • Very comfortable wool
  • Top notch quality
  • Very warm for a lightweight layer
  • Machine washable

    Women’s:
  • Cut allows for full range of movement
  • Great thickness for layering without bunching
  • Incredibly soft & insulating
Cons:
  • High price tag for a baselayer
  • Loose fit and longer cut were less flattering (Women’s version)
Bottom-Line:

Men’s: The only problem with this product for this reviewer is that I can’t stop wearing it. The Ibex Woolies Crew is an excellent light weight base layer. If you’re not afraid of the big bad wool, it’s worth a try.

Women’s: The versatility and comfort of this product surprised me. I found this Ibex top to be the perfect baselayer for a wide variety of activities. Whether heading out for a winter run or hiking through snow in the mountains, the moisture-wicking properties and lightweight insulation kept me comfortable and warm. The soft, high-quality merino wool made me want to reach for this layer for non-athletic activities as well. My only disappointment was the loose fit and longer cut were not as flattering as I would have liked. Still, the comfort of this product could not be matched. I guarantee you will find yourself marveling at how soft and comfortable wool can be
