Patagonia’s Jetstream jacket takes advantage of the latest in rain shell technology, including Welded Seam construction, stretch panels around the shoulders, and water resistant zippers. It is thoughtfully designed, stylish, and light weight (12.5 oz), while remaining simple and functional.
The Jetstream is roomy enough for an insulating layer to fit comfortably underneath, while still allowing full range of motion. The pockets are conveniently placed, although you can’t really get into the front hand pockets when wearing a pack belt. The hood, designed to fit over a helmet, can be adjusted to shelter your head while providing good visibility and staying out of your eyes. The pit zips add a bit of temperature control without exposing you to the rain.
The Jetstream stands up very well to rainy outings both around town and in the mountains. Even after hours of hiking in the rain moisture doesn’t leak in from the seams, zippers, or around the cuffs, and the pit zip vents kept moisture from building up on the inside of the jacket. What more can be said about a jacket? The Jetstream keeps you dry, without sacrificing comfort, adjustability or versatility.
This jacket was a replacement for my last rain jacket which was good, but not quite right in many ways. I have yet to be disappointed with Patagonia’s Jetstream. It is waterproof, comfortable to wear, adjustable to a range of temperatures, and packs well.
