Now into day two and the Kiwis and Aussies are in front.

Team Kiwi, with Team Aussie just minutes behind, arrived at the final check point of the sea kayaking section after a wild ride through the rough surf and huge ocean swells.

After the compulsory overnight stop, the lead teams have had to face "really scary seas — huge ocean swells," said Team Aussie's Jane Hall. The Aussie team actually left PC4 ahead of the Kiwis this morning but had a lot of trouble getting out through the high surf. This allowed the Kiwis, with a smooth transition off the beach, the chance to get ahead.

"This morning the ocean claimed another victim when Team Urban Edge was disqualified when team member Bill Vayo was airlifted suffering from extreme hypothermia after flipping his kayak..."

The teams remained together through this section to ensure their survival and safety in the wild seas, said Adam Fairmaid of Team Kiwi. The Kiwis arrived in good spirits, still buzzing from the surfing ride they had into the beach.

From here, the teams were eager to shower and eat at the camp which resembles a cross between a desert storm base and the Lawrence of Arabia film set, located on a spectacular remote beach..crowded with media and Moroccan VIP's.

These teams have just received their first look at the next section of the course which will restart at Qal'at Mgouna, a nine hour drive by mini van. This was a welcome surprise as it means a chance to sleep and rehydrate after two days in the sun before beginning the first of the trekking into the mountains tonight.

This morning the ocean claimed another victim when Team Urban Edge was disqualified when team member Bill Vayo was airlifted suffering from extreme hypothermia after flipping his kayak.
