Tonight's official welcoming reception for the '98 Eco-Challenge could be described as nothing less than extraordinary.

Held in the centuries old Badia Palace, competitors and media were treated to a show fit for royalty. The sight of the fortified walls lined with a traditional horseback guard of honor and each guest being showered with rose petals as they entered set the tone for a unique experience.

"Hard to believe that competitors are soon to embark on one of the planet's toughest events..."

Dancers
Literally hundreds of entertainers — dancing girls, musicians and acrobats lined the open air rug lined courtyard. Combine this with an ample supply of local treats and drinkables and it is a recipe for one huge party.

Hard to believe that competitors are soon to embark on one of the planet's toughest events but we are sure things will take on a slightly more serious tone tomorrow when they receive the first look at the course plotted for them.
