Plumes of snow are blown off the Hillary Step by the extreme winds of the jet-stream viewed here from the South Summit, 28,700'. This traverse from the South Summit to the Hillary Step is considered to be the most exposed and dangerous part of the summit climb. To the left is the 8,000 foot southwest Face of Everest and to the right the 10,000 foot Kangshung Face. Here, a climber is barely visible on the snowy ledge near the top of the Step.
