A chorten, or
stupa, near
Lukla. These
structures, found
throughout the
Khumbu, are
receptacles for
offerings to the
Gods and often
house Buddhist
religious relics. All
chortens consists
of several
sections, each
with a symbolic
meaning. The
rectangular base,
for instance,
symbolizes solid
earth while the
uppermost
conical spire
symbolizes fire. |
