A Trimble 4800 receiver is set up to monitor the drift of base camp. The team is using a hole drilled in a granite block outside there communications tent as a reference point and to map the route to the various camps on the mountain. In this case high precision is not required, being within a few meters suffices. As this photo was being emailed to Mountain Zone, one of the team's Sherpas, Dawa, was carrying a GeoExplorer strapped to the top of his backpack and logging the route between base camp and Camp II in the Western Cwm.
