"We are starting to get the hints of dawn here at Base Camp. The light is slowly creeping over Everest from Tibet...."
Hello Cybernauts! The group has just radioed in from the Southeast Ridge. Sounds like everyone is moving well! The climbing to this point has been to the east side of the ridge proper, up some fairly steep terrain. From this point on, the climb will continue on the ridge itself. The next big stop will be the South Summit, and then onto the Hillary Step and then to the top of the WORLD!

We have heard earlier that the National Geo team (led by Pete Athans) has caught up with and passed our group, giving them a break from plowing the trail. Also attempting the summit tonight is one Italian climber and two Hungarians. We do not have their locations at this time, but we await news of their progress.

We are starting to get the hints of dawn here at Base Camp. The light is slowly creeping over Everest from Tibet. I was woken by Ellie about half an hour ago and begrudgingly took my turn behind the radio and computer. However, I have to thank Ellie for letting me sleep for so long (and for letting me sleep while it was dark!). The weather continues to improve down here and I can only imagine the views the group in enjoying from high on Everest!

We will keep you posted on the group's progress as it happens here on MountainZone.com! Stay tuned.
